Kristy began her 17 year long legal career at the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions, before being appointed as a Judge's Associate in District Court of Queensland at Maroochydore.
Kristy spent 9 years as a Barrister at the Queensland Bar before opening Finnigan Smith Law in 2018. We seek to arm our clients with the correct advice from the very beginning of their legal matters so that when they do have their day in court, they have every chance of succeeding - particularly where there is a focus on keeping vulnerable children safe from harm.

As a mother herself, and someone who has experienced family violence, Kristy found her passion in family law and domestic violence law during her career. She is heavily involved in domestic violence prevention advocacy and regularly volunteers her time to assist victims in crisis situations.

Kristy brings a wealth of advocacy experience to her role as Principal Lawyer at Finnigan Smith Law, having been briefed in all manners of Court proceedings throughout her career at the Bar. She has appeared as Counsel in criminal law matters before juries, Full Court of the Family Court appeals, sentences, summary trials and domestic violence hearings. Between 2017 - 2023 Kristy was a sessional member of the Queensland Civil and Administrative Tribunal (QCAT)

Kristy has extensive life experience which allows her to approach her client's matters with empathy and insight; she is a passionate advocate who genuinely enjoys the law and looks forward to helping many more people navigate the legal system in the future.
